Is there is a barrier to getting more clients to hire you for the service you provide?
One that prevents you from booking more projects or landing more business, despite your obvious talents, skills, and abilities?
Something that, if addressed, would get more folks reaching out, more consistently, to inquire about hiring you for your services or buying your products (provided you’re driving consistent, high-quality traffic to your website or otherwise getting your offer in front of the right people)?
This is the story of how I helped one of my clients, a boudoir photographer, overcome that exact scenario through an educational email course.
The situation: Kristen is a talented photographer with many happy clients, and the glowing testimonials to back it up.
Her goal: To get more bookings, more consistently.
The challenge: As a boudoir photographer, the problem wasn’t her talents, skills, or experience (after all, she already had delighted clients singing her praises), it was something much deeper:
Many women who would normally be interested in a boudoir session hesitated to move forward, because they had lots of beliefs about how they needed to look to get flattering shots.
I’d previously written Kristen’s website copy, so I had access to voice of customer data she’d collected about the hesitations potential clients had about booking her services.
This information gave me insight into several beliefs that needed to be dispelled to encourage potential clients to move forward.
Things like:
· I need to lose 5/10/20 pounds first
· I don’t love my body right now & should probably spend at least 6 months hitting the gym before I even think about doing this
· I have too many flaws to look beautiful in photographs
· I’m shy / don’t feel comfortable showing my body
· I don’t have a clue what to wear, how to pose, the best way to prep for my session, or how I’ll be able to relax in front of the camera
Kristen already had an email sequence in place that addressed some of these concerns, but she shared during our project onboarding process that it wasn’t working quite as well as she’d like to secure more bookings.
With all this in mind, our goal was to:
#1: Increase the number of people signing up for her email list and going through the entire educational email course / email sequence
#2: Increase the number of bookings for her boudoir sessions as a result of this email sequence
The solution to #1 was a persuasive landing page that shared the benefits of signing up for Kristen’s email list, so potential clients would be uber-eager to subscribe.
The solution to #2 was a series of educational emails that shared tips for how to prepare for a boudoir session, so potential clients would be assured they’d feel confident, comfortable, and gorgeous on camera, and therefore excited about booking a session.
As we were brainstorming the project, I had an idea for how to make signing up for Kristen’s email list a no-brainer:
:: I’d add a lot more value to her current email series, effectively rewriting it from scratch
:: I’d position it as an email course rather than a series of emails, and call it, “Boudoir Session Prep School” – which we knew would be hard to resist for anyone considering a boudoir session.
:: I’d call out the specific benefits of signing up for the email course on the landing page by outlining the tips & strategies included in the emails, all of which helped dispel the myths and false beliefs mentioned above.
Here’s the full title of the email course we landed on:
Boudoir Session Prep School: A Totally Free E-Course Featuring My Best Confidence-Boosting, Love-Your-Body-Exactly-the-Way-It-Is-Now Tips to Help You Show Up Boldly for Your Session
Tips in the email course included:
:: Wardrobe advice to help clients choose the most flattering outfits (including a lingerie guide + a list of places to look/shop)
:: Hair & makeup ideas to help clients look and feel gorgeous on camera
:: Tips for mentally preparing so clients would feel calm & confident the day of their session
:: What to eat & drink (and what to avoid) the week before a session, so clients would look and feel their best the day of the shoot
:: Posing secrets to elevate each person’s natural beauty and show off their body in the best possible light
:: What it’s like on session day, so clients know exactly what to expect
Spoiler alert: The plan worked!

Benefits of an Educational Email Course or Email Sequence
Think about this with your own product or service offerings.
Is there some obstacle to booking your services or buying your products? Are there myths or false beliefs you need to dispel first to get potential buyers eager to work with you?
If so, these can be addressed in an educational email series like the one I wrote for Kristen.
Then you’d write a persuasive landing page for your site that outlines the benefits of signing up for the email course or sequence, targeted to your ideal clients and their challenges.
And once you create these uber-important marketing assets?
You’ll have an evergreen system that works for you 24/7 to help with client attraction and conversion. (Again, provided you’re driving high-quality traffic made up of your ideal clients and customers to your site.)
Even if there isn’t a particular or specific obstacle that prevents people from buying your products or services, as in the case of our boudoir photographer, an educational email course or sequence is still an important asset to implement into your business for the following reasons:
:: An educational email course or sequence that helps people achieve a worthwhile goal or result has more perceived value than a newsletter, discount, or one-off downloadable lead magnet, resulting in a higher opt-in rate
:: An educational email course or sequence is great for authority-building
:: Because you’re landing in someone’s inbox several times over the course of a few days as you deliver your educational email course or sequence, this kind of opt-in is better at building trust and strong relationships than a one-off download or boring old “newsletter.”
